Always a bridesmaid, never the bride!

The saying, 'always a bridesmaid, never the bride' stems from a cheeky strapline in a 1925 Listerine breath freshener campaign (below). The way of selling Listerine involved a bridesmaid called Eleanor, who couldn't find a groom due to her bad breath. The breath freshener was positioned as a beauty product that girls couldn't do without, if they wanted to find a husband, and sales of Listerine apparently rose from $100,000 to $4million!
Poor bridesmaids, still to this day get teased with the saying, 100 years later!
The bridesmaids we meet here at Elmore couldn't be more different than poor Eleanor, and we've seen so many beautiful weddings recently, we thought the humble bridesmaid deserved a little love. So here's just a few that we've picked out, as we love their style, we thought we'd share with you, and the reasons why we love them so.
Natural bridesmaid dresses
- The past few years, we've seen a huge increase in bridesmaids wearing a neutral/nude colour dress. This colour compliments the brides white dress perfectly, as well as a suiting bridesmaids skin tones as the shade can vary.
Pastel dresses of dreams
- Pastel dresses are always a favourite for bridesmaids, flattering shades that tie in the colours of the flowers, the buttonholes or ties of the groomsmen.
- We love the bridesmaids in Devon and Dan's wedding, who all wore different pastel shade dresses AND colour coordinated their flowers to match!
- Alice and Daniel chose a lovely soft green dress for their bridesmaids, but broke up the colour with a couple of soft pink dresses, and just look at their bouquets, a single blush pink rose!
Shades of colour
- to really mix it up, differ the colour of the dresses not just the style! We love Chelsea and Ted's bridesmaid dresses, all the different shades of pink from hot pink to soft pink.
- Lamyah put her bridesmaids in beautiful sari's to compliment her own, all different colours but all matched in terms of print on the material, and it worked perfectly.
